Over the last few seasons we have experienced the most exciting races with spectacular overtaking that could rank among the best ever; In the just gone 2019 we witnessed three unique moments that will go down in history. There are so many amazing images that the past season left with us that we wanted to compile the 10 best passes. And if this was already difficult, choosing the best of all remains a point of discussion.
10. San Marino GP: Marquez on Quartararo
We start with a overtake by the champion. Marc left Quartararo in Misano with the burden of proof. The Frenchman commanded every lap until the final, when he was caught by surprise by Marc. Fabio was leading, but this time, Márquez had more than one card saved. And upon arriving to Quercia corner, he braked hard with the rear wheel bouncing, his foot on the ground and smoke rising from his boot. With this spectacular move he passed Quartararo to score a new victory.
9. Austria GP: Quartararo on Marquez
The Austrian race left us with more than one image burned in our memory, and for number 9 we want to remember this particular overtaking.
Quartararo progressed faster than expected, and at races like in the one Austria he demonstrated his potential. We are in the first laps of the Red Bull Ring GP. On the front straight after turn 1, Marc's Honda greatly exceeded Fabio's Yamaha, but in the braking into turn 3 Fabio braked later, much later, gaining the distance Marc had taken to recover the position and surprising the Spaniard.
8. GP of the Americas: Rins on Rossi
COTA, last April. The win was at stake between Rossi and Rins. The young Suzuki rider tried desperately to steal the lead from the Italian, but Valentino braked late enough that Alex had no chance. With four laps to go, Rins found a way to use the advantage of his Suzuki. In the linking corner area, where many changes of direction happen, he put himself on the inside gaining the position. A pass that would end up giving him his first victory in MotoGP.
7. Valencia GP: Marquez on Quartararo
Marc had already taken the season as champion, but in Valencia he won after a spectacular pass on Quartararo. He attacked from afar using progressive braking, with a lean angle at the limits of physics, and slipped inside his rival at turn 11.
6. Argentine GP: Rossi on Dovizioso
It seemed impossible for Yamaha to beat the Ducati in Argentina. On the last lap and on the long straight Dovizioso had made a reassuring lead. Braking to his limit and still 5 meters behind Dovizioso, Valentino tried to get to the wheel of his countryman. In the long left turn that is turn 6, Rossi used up what was left of his rear tire to get close enough, and in the change of direction put himself inside ahead of Dovi to reach second position.
5. Austria GP: Marquez on Dovizioso
The victory would not be worth it although Marquez tried until the last moment. An on example was the pass that happened three laps to the end. Marc needed to surprise Dovizioso. The Ducati was superior to the Honda, and the only way to win was to invent a place where he could pass the Italian. In turn 7, an unthinkable turn for overtaking in any of the categories, where the braking is very short and the motorcycle very leaned over, Marc passed Andrea with until this moment an impossible move.
